"Unexpected Paradise"
Shayla had always dreamed of visiting Jamaica—the sun-soaked beaches, the rhythmic pulse of reggae music, the vibrant colors and culture. After months of planning and saving, she finally booked a solo trip to Montego Bay. It was her way of escaping the routine and clearing her mind after a tough year.
What she didn’t expect was to see Amber there.
Amber, her childhood best friend turned distant stranger, hadn’t spoken to Shayla in nearly three years. They used to be inseparable—laughing through sleepovers, surviving teenage heartbreaks, and cheering each other through milestones. But a bitter misunderstanding had caused them to drift apart. Words were said. Silence followed. And time did the rest.
On her third day in Jamaica, Shayla walked into a beachside café, barefoot and salty from the ocean, ready for a mango smoothie and some solitude. As she scanned for a table, her eyes locked with someone sitting by the railing, sipping a drink.
Her heart dropped.
"Amber?" she whispered aloud, too stunned to stop herself.
Amber turned. Her sunglasses slid down her nose slightly, revealing equally shocked eyes. For a moment, time paused. The ocean behind them kept rolling, reggae played softly in the background, and the scent of jerk chicken filled the air—but neither of them moved.
Then, Amber stood up.
"Shayla... I didn’t know you were here," she said, voice cautious, like she wasn’t sure if she’d be welcomed.
"I could say the same. What are you doing here?" Shayla managed, still frozen.
Amber smiled nervously. "Running away. Or maybe... finding something I lost."
There was a pause. The air between them felt fragile, but not hostile. Shayla exhaled slowly, trying to loosen the knots in her chest.
"Wanna sit?" Amber asked, gesturing to the seat across from her.
Shayla nodded. "Yeah. Let’s talk."
They talked for hours. About what had happened. About what had hurt. About what they missed. Laughter crept in. So did tears. But most importantly—so did healing.
Under the golden Jamaican sun, with the ocean whispering forgiveness, two old friends found their way back to each other.
